About the Dress

The Monique Lhuillier Masterpiece Gown lives up to its name in every sense (and was actually mentioned by my sisters in their wedding speech!). Opulent and romantic, I knew it was 'my' dress from the second I saw it. It is designed in a dramatic ballgown silhouette (giving regal timeless elegance!); the bodice is structured and cinched at the waist, providing a flattering shape that gives way to a voluminous skirt that is surprisingly easy to walk in (I actually had bare feet for most of the day as I don't wear heels (I'm already 181cm/6ft!) and I wanted to be comfortable). This actually gives a lot of scope for shorter brides, as the length could easily be taken up. It is made from layers of silk organza or tulle, the gown features delicate lacework and hand-applied floral appliqués.

The neckline is typically a classic strapless sweetheart, accentuating the collarbones and décolletage. At the back, elegant touches such as covered buttons and corset detailing provide interest and structure, culminating in a sweeping cathedral-length train that trails behind in magnificent fashion.

The cape isn't really a cape as such - it comprises of sleeves and a cape in one. So the dress is sweetheart neckline and entirely strapless (as shown in some of the photos) and then you add the cape with sleeves over the top, for a totally different look. I wore both parts for my ceremony and then removed the cape with sleeves for the reception. There is also a hook underneath that allows you to bustle the skirt for dancing!

The colour of the dress is a very very slight "champagne" but honestly really tricky to describe! My bridesmaids wore a champagne nude colour and it offset beautifully.

It was my dream to wear this gown and I hope that it makes another bride as happy as it made me! The dress and cape together were £26,000 (yes, I know, don't judge me lol) at Brown's Brides in London.
